In this article, I want to discuss 3 different approaches to
generating traffic to your website; how each approach can help
you promote YOUR website; and who REALLY benefits from these
methods.

Question: What do the following sites have in common?
StartBlaze; Trafficology; and TextMeFree.com .
Answer: In one way or another, they all provide successful
ways you can generate traffic to your website.

If you are a keen follower of all things 'website promotion', you
have probably heard of StartBlaze and you may well have heard of
Trafficology, but you will not have heard of TextMeFree.com (but
may well understand the concept behind it).
So let's look at each website promotion idea on its own,
explaining how it works and who really benefits...
=> Site 1: StartBlaze
* So, what is StartBlaze?
1. A free viral traffic building system that takes seconds to
start.
2. Get free advertising doing something you would normally do
throughout your day anyway. Open your browser and get traffic.
Your friends open their browser and you get traffic, too.
Here's a Quick Run Down of How StartBlaze Works:

2. Earn hits by opening your browser.

For very little effort on your part, StartBlaze DOES DELIVER
traffic to your nominated site. And if you are successful in
referring other StartBlaze users, you really might see a LOT
OF VISITORS to your site.
Remember, though, that most of the visitors will be more
interested in promoting *their* site than exploring your site.
Make sure your nominated site is suitable to such visitors,
otherwise you will only get a few seconds of their time.
(This is because a simple click on a browser's refresh button and
StartBlaze delivers another StartBlaze site, and another partial
hit to the StartBlaze user!)
StartBlaze - 8/10
* Who REALLY benefits from StartBlaze?
StartBlaze is an easy way to get visitors to your website, but
the site that really benefits from StartBlaze is...
Answer: Aesop.com (and associated websites).
Each website delivered by StartBlaze is framed by a top frame
that contains a StartBlaze login panel AND an Aesop.com search
box. (Aesop.com are the owners of Start Blaze.)
Also, and without boring and confusing you with the maths,
for every 6 sites you visit, Aesop.com (and associated websites)
gets AT LEAST 1 hit and may well receive 5 hits (if you have not
been referred by another StartBlaze user).
Mark Joyner, CEO of Aesop.com, is a very clever man. He has
created (and marketed!) a modest, almost unique traffic-
generation system that many are keen to and promote (including
myself - I'm even writing this article about StartBlaze!). And,
as all of us work hard to generate more visitors to our sites
using StartBlaze, we inevitably generate more visitors to
Aesop.com (and associated web sites) too. Brilliant.

* So what is the Trafficology newsletter?
(Again, in their own words...)

Frankly, a lot of them are lousy.
But invariably... a handful of them are GREAT web promotion ideas
that I would have never thought of... and that I promise you've

read some excellent website promotion ideas; you simply have to
put the ideas into practice (hence the 'maybe').
* The real website promotion idea?
Probably contained in each issue of the Trafficology newsletter.
=> Site 3: TextMeFree.com
* So, what is TextMeFree.com ?
A worldwide guide to free SMS text messaging services !
(You're looking puzzled, I can tell!)
...And as such, TextMeFree.com will not help you promote YOUR
website at all. "So why do I mention it in this article?" I hear
you ask. I'll explain in a moment.
TextMeFree.com is also an example of a theme-based or niche site,
designed around a high-demand/low-supply concept - free sms.
* Verdict on TextMeFree.com
Okay, I admit it, TextMeFree.com is a site I created; more as an
experiment in building traffic than anything else. But get this!
I
finished the site at the end of June 2001, and it is already
receiving over 1000 page views a day, in the middle of July. Yes,
one thousand per day!
(Are you starting to get interested, yet?)
I have created enough websites to be impressed with 1000 page
views and 200 unique visitors per day. (Especially when the site
is less than a month old, and after only the most basic of
website promotion on my part; no money spent.)
How can a guide to 'sending free text messages' help you?
TextMeFree.com is irrelevant, in itself. It is simply an example
of a site that meets a high demand - free SMS text messaging
services - with little or no supply. It is simply an example of a
theme-based site that gets word-of-mouth and repeat traffic, and
will soon get search engine traffic too!
And if I can create a 'TextMeFree.com', then you too can create
a site with high demand and low supply; a site that focuses
on a niche, or theme; a site designed around so-called
'profitable' keywords. How?
Visit Wordtracker and use their free keyword suggestion tool!
Wordtracker determines keyword 'profitability' based on keywords
that you choose, and measured against the Alta Vista search
engine. For each keyword, it calculates a Keyword Effectiveness
Index or KEI (invented by Sumantra Roy of 1stSearchRanking).
Generate keywords with a KEI over 100, like 'free sms' or 'mobile
phone ringtones' and you have a site concept worth developing.

(The paid-for Wordtracker service determines keyword
profitability against all the major search engines and
directories, including the pay-per-click search engine GoTo. It
costs less than $10 for one day!

* Who really benefits from TextMeFree.com?
Answer: You benefit.
You don't benefit from TextMeFree.com in itself, but you will
benefit from creating a site like TextMeFree.com - theme-based,
focussed on in-demand keywords, with few competitors. (Believe
me, it's a lot easier promoting a site that people *want* to
visit! You're simply doing people a favour, half the time, when
you tell them about it. And then people genuinely *do* tell their
friends.)
* The real website promotion idea?
Create a theme-based or niche site, about an in-demand subject
with few competitor sites. For more information and ideas, visit:

So which website promotion idea works best for you?
StartBlaze offers a quick and easy way to get (low-quality ?)
visitors to your site, but is a great way to promote Aesop.com
(and associated websites). Trafficology newsletter lets you learn
from the best, but there is no guarantee of success. And
TextMeFree.com will not help you promote your website, but is a
great example of getting traffic when you simply 'meet a need.'
Why not visit the sites, and see for yourself!
PS As I finish writing this article, and after publicising the
site recently in a press release, TextMeFree.com is now
receiving over 2000 page views per day. (Now if only I could
convert some of that traffic into income...!)

HOW TO MAKE YOUR BANNER
EXCHANGES WORK

I figured our a great way to make the
banner exchange work.
My banners are actually getting more click
throughs than ever.
As you know, banners are really a poor way
to advertise. People are oblivious to them.
They are so common and so annoying, that most
people just ignore them.
But now you can get a decent click through rate.
Try making your banner simple. Make it blue and
white. Blue letters on a white background. Make
the blue letters in verdana or times or a common
typestyle used on websites.
The purpose is to make the banner look like a link
on the page it is shown on.
Again, make the letters blue. The same shade that
links usually are, and have it underlined so that
it appears to be a link.
The blue type on the white background will appear
as a link on the page it is shown on.
This of course will only work well with pages that
have white backgrounds since the white background
of the banner will blend into the background and the
blue words will appear as if they were part of the
site they are on. Not as a banner.
Since most pages are white, this is will work.
It will work on other pages since it looks like a link.
Here is an example of one of our banners:
Notice how the banner looks like a link and just "floats"
This banner has brought a larger click through rate
than any other banners we have tried.
You can gear the banner to anything you might promote
or sell. Just the fact that the banner looks as if it
is a link on any specific page that is showing the
banner is the best.
It is important to target your banner to the correct
market for even better results. If you are selling
cosmetics, it really would not be a great draw on a
webpage dedicated to NASCAR. So make sure your ad will
be seen on the proper websites. Targeting is very
important.
Most banner exchange programs allow you to target specific
business types and even specific businesses.

Why Some People Will NEVER Succeed, No Matter How Hard
They Try.... And How YOU Can Avoid The Same Mistakes!

After being an online marketer for over four years,
the truth FINALLY hit me. I'd absorbed so much hype,
so many worthless marketing strategies and worst of all,
I'd seen and heard WAY too many failures to count, that
the powerful thought of realization conjured in my mind.
I had what alcoholics would refer to as a "moment of
clarity". And at the risk of sound enthralling, my
"Internet Business Enlightenment" hit me like a brick.
What had happened?
My business buddies had come and gone in their bucket
loads. My trusted friends who once spoke with raving
ambition in their voices had died from the scene and
left me with nothing more than the memories of the
hopes and ambitions that had once powered their aura.
Metaphorically, the Internet appeared in my mind like
a ghost town. The houses, that once provided shelter
for the world's most motivated ambitions, had now
been boarded up and a "For Sale" sign hangs outside.
In literal terms, I'd seen my "best net friends" drop
from my ICQ contact list like flies. I was suddenly
noticing returned mail errors when I tried to contact
my business mates by email, and the worst feelings came
when I received notifications of their intent to quit.

WHAT WAS GOING ON? Why Did I Feel So Strongly?
==============================================
To put it bluntly, the ambitions that once were, died.
My most regular contacts online had quit this Internet
marketing 'lark'. Quite simply, they realized the hype.
They were sick and tired of spending endless amounts of
cash on worthless marketing techniques, wasting hours
of their life on pointless promotional junk, and getting
ripped off by the "get rich quick" nature of the 'Net.
They had given Internet marketing "the finger", and in
return it had given them a bad taste that would plague
their mouth every time the phrase "make money online" was
mentioned. The worst thing is, tens of thousands of folks
that I don't even know go through the same thing EVERY year.
* And honestly, is it at all surprising? *
Every search I do for "Internet marketing" churns up 100s
of worthless websites, plagued with affiliate links, bad
site design and promises of millions. The limitations of
off-line business has been removed, and so has given way
to a world of hype, scams, lies and false hope and promises.
No wonder thousands of businesses are actually LOSING money
online. It's like a mine field. Thousands walk through the
field, thousands get blown up and disappear, and only a few
people actually make it safely to the end. WAKE UP EVERYONE!
You want to know WHY I'm still here after this time, owning
a successful business that I run from the home office? Want
to know WHY I haven't joined the rat-race that I see clog up
the roads at 9am and 5pm every day? Want to know WHY I don't
quit, throw in the towel and say goodbye so all of this HYPE?
The Answers:
1. I don't listen to any of it! Although I'm NEVER skeptical
of life's possibilities, I am realistic. Sure, you CAN
become a raving success online. But why take advice from
the self-proclaimed gurus that haven't achieved it?
2. I keep a VERY open mind to my own possibilities and have
confidence in my own judgements. I know that by thinking
in a successful and positive frame of mind, I can achieve it.
3. I DRIVE myself with a burning desire of true success, and
will absolutely stick to that at all costs. My tenacity
(persistence) grows every day, I stay focused at ALL times.
4. I work like heck and learn everything I can. Over the past
few years I've learned more than my entire school education
taught me in terms of real-world practicalities and skills.
5. No matter what life throws at me, no matter how much the
circumstances can hurt, I stand up and say "I'm not
affected".
I NEVER give up. I NEVER quit. I keep striving for success.
So What Will You Become?
I'm going to tell you something now that I wish I'd been told
a long time ago. Internet success doesn't come from a few search
engine submissions, worthless FFA postings and a site plagued
with affiliate links. It comes from UNIQUE ideas, with UNIQUE
creations, fueled by an over-powering ambition to SUCCEED.
You have two choices. Join the FEW who discover that the Internet
(like so many things in life) takes hard work, smart thinking and
a positive attitude for success... Or join the THOUSANDS that
follow the hype, waste time and money, and die the Internet death.
Those two paths await. Which route will YOU take?
